EVENTS
Nature's Bin & Friends WALK RUN
The annual Walk was created to promote the talent and dedication of people with disabilities. We now provide a new opportunity for inclusive participation in one of several events.
This year, Nature’s Bin, HELP Foundation, New Avenues to Independence and The Arc of Greater Cleveland are teaming up again for a 5k run and 1 mile walk. We are all excited about this partnership among agencies with similar missions and the goal of bringing communities together. Thank you to Medical Mutual for bringing support to this collaborative event!
This community event will be held on Saturday, October 1st, at Lakewood Park in Lakewood, Ohio. It will feature a 5K (3.1 mile) road run course beginning and ending at Lakewood Park. There will be an optional 1 mile run/walk. Each distance is wheelchair and stroller friendly.
We invite you to join us in support of and on behalf of people with disabilities. Your support will truly make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Please consider supporting our missions:

About the Bakers
Edward I. and Fannie L. Baker turned their love for their daughter, Debbie, with Down syndrome into a drive to help others with the condition. The Bakers were pioneers in providing support services for children with Down syndrome and their families. Side by side with a dozen dedicated parents, the Bakers helped to found The Arc of Greater Cleveland, where Ed served as President for several terms. They also were founding trustees of what is now known as New Avenues to Independence. They also formed the Edward I. and Fannie L. International Resources Center for Down Syndrome, which became part of The Arc of GC in the late 1990’s, as a research and service center for families. As a tribute to the Baker’s commitment, generosity and dedication to helping others, The Arc of Greater Cleveland honors them for their committment to our community.

Including Samuel
Photojournalist Dan Habib rarely thought about inclusion before he had his son Samuel seven years ago. Now he thinks about inclusion every day. Habib’s documentary film, Including Samuel examines the educational and social inclusion of youth with disabilities as a civil rights issue. The film is built on the efforts of Habib and his family to include Samuel, 8 in all facets of school and community. Including Samuel also features four other families with varied inclusion experiences, plus interviews with dozens of teachers, young people, parents and disability rights experts. The film recently won the annual Positive Images in Media award from TASH, an international group committed to the full inclusion of people with disabilities. The film was also named “Best Documentary” of the 2007 Somewhat North of Boston Film Festival, and has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and in the Washington Post and Boston Globe.
A select few local screenings of the film with facilitated discussions led by Dan Habib were hosted by The Arc of Greater Cleveland on April 14, 2008. The target audience was the general public, students at the middle and high school levels, general and special educators, and college students and teachers.
